Second Line Light First Response

Das Leben der Beobachtungen aus Belgrad Fußgänger

The life of the pedestrian is a collection of feature pages Sebastian Haffner from 1935 to 1938 (ie until his emigration). These texts are difficult to compare the extent of his political observations from England (as Germany: Jekyll & Hyde ) in postwar Germany or his even later historical notes. They were rather as complementing his complete works on his death and the publishing success his story of a German published.

Haffner describes this feature in everything and anything: life as such, holidays, travel, Paris, postcards and other diverse topics. He often takes extreme positions and defended them looking and based on tapered punch. Here, he proves to be entertaining and amusing but not much more than that are probably the most interesting historical insight, which may lead to the modern reader of the book. These and Haffner (tried, as well mainly by his editors self-censored) taunts and criticisms of the Nazis, in one of the most beautiful feature pages, which is a comparison between people with taste and those dealing with a world view.

arises is why so often the rumor that the man of taste is dead, but since comforted, it still exists.
